Dog Sledding

A white path amidst spruce forests covered with snow; the whooshing of snow under and in front of the sled; a pack of sled dogs, grey like wolves, seemingly tireless in their purposeful running. Scenes from far-off Alaska are now featured in the Loška Koritnica Valley, encircled by mighty summits. Everybody, especially children, can enjoy the primeval connection with animate and inanimate nature.

Sledding
This is the kind of sport that takes us back to our childhoods. In the dark, illuminated by torches and headlamps, under the bright stars in the sky above the Julian Alps, sleds are rushing through the tranquil winter night. Sledding courses down the Mangrt Road, as well as Možnica, the Javoršček Road and the road from Lepoč Pasture satisfy sledders of all tastes. Treat yourself to the joys and happiness of childhood and share this ...

KANIN – GUIDE SERVICE AND FREERIDE SKI RENTAL

During the new-year holidays, the agency Outdoor Freaks (www.freakoutdoor.com) organises a freeride guide service and ski rental of various manufacturers (e.g. Fisher, Head, Atomic) free of charge.

Ice Climbing

The majority of aircraft sportsmen take a break during the winter, but paragliders are not among them. A pleasant take-off site on the Mt. Kanin ski slopes awaits, and there is nothing more simple or beautiful than to take off with your skis on. A short downhill run is all one needs to get intoxicated with the peaceful winter atmosphere while observing the snowy Bovec Basin far below. Snowshoeing
The heavy snowfall of recent winters has made the snowshoes of our ancestors – “krplje” – popular again. Wherever one might get stuck in the snow with modern footwear, this simple accessory, which can be attached to our boots, helps us out of trouble. All of a sudden, the Alpine valleys covered with deep snow – Zadnjica, Zapoden, Možnica and/or Bavšica – become easily accessible.   Providers: more

The Kanin Ski Centre spreads across a great deal of the Kanin Range, but there are still places for those who enjoy the serenity of deserted slopes and skiing off of the maintained pistes. Practically the entire western part of the Kanin Massif is still untouched, and large slopes as well as long, solitude-filled alpine depressions ending near the village of Žaga invite all enthusiasts of daylong ski-roaming.

The areas under ...

Past winters with heavy snowfall have enabled great skiing on practically every hill in every village in the area. When the Kanin Ski Centre opened its doors in the early 1970s, ski enthusiasts found yet another challenge and the possibility of enjoying skiing on the several-metres-thick blanket of snow. Just recently, ...

Cross-Country Skiing
The configuration of the Bovec Basin is very suitable for cross-country skiing. Less experienced cross-country skiers can enjoy the ski trail around the Bovec airfield and its extension toward Rabeljk. Those slightly more experienced will find their pleasure on a trail near the village of Čezsoča, while the trail in Loška Koritnica embraced by Mt. Jalovec, Loška stena and the mighty Mt. Mangrt awaits only connoisseur skiers, to whom ...
