Monument and Military Cemetery in Log pod Mangrtom
Behind the civilian cemetery in Spodnji Log is an Austrian military cemetery from World War I. The valley of the Koritnica was in the rear of the Soča front, hence the cemetery was arranged during the first years of the war. Iron crosses with inscription plaques bearing the names of buried soldiers stand on mounds. The graves are arranged on two terraces, the lower one encircled by spruce and larch trees. At the passage between the two terraces stands a concrete sculpture, the work of Czech sculptor Ladislav Kofranek. The statue represents two soldiers gazing towards the peak of Mt. Rombon for whose conquest most of the buried soldiers fell during heavy fighting. The support bears a plaque with dedications in Slovene, Serbo-Croatian and German to the brave defenders of Mt. Rombon.
